To provide quality school psychological services to students, parents, and school personnel through prevention, evaluation, intervention, consultation, and training services.
The School Psychologist shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below.
• Evaluate students in grades PreK-12 who have been referred for formal individual psychological evaluations.
• Diagnose students based upon information from parents, school and community professionals, evaluation instruments, and techniques.
• Interpret the results of formal individual psychological evaluations to parents and school personnel.
• Prepare written psychological reports of findings, interpretations, diagnoses, and recommendations regarding students evaluated.
• Conduct reevaluations and participate in reviews of students enrolled in exceptional student programs.
• Serve as a member of eligibility and placement staffing committees, IEP committees, and school-based Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) teams.
• Maintain familiarity with current criteria for the identification and placement of students in exceptional student programs and follow procedures specified in Exceptional Students Education Policies and Procedures for all students suspected of being exceptional.
• Maintain familiarity with current evaluation instruments and techniques, their statistical properties, and appropriate interpretation.
• Consult with parents, students, and school personnel to assist in resolving the learning and adjustment problems of students.
• Perform crisis intervention services as part of the Crisis Response Team.
• Follow procedures established by the District Coordinators, Psychological Services.
• Inform the District Coordinators, Psychological Services of concerns regarding the delivery of psychological services.
• Inform the District Coordinators, Psychological Services of concerns regarding workstations, secretarial services, equipment, or supplies.
• Respond to principal requests for other services in which the expertise of a psychologist would be of value, such as short-term individual and group counseling activities.
• Provide teacher and parent training on topics such as fostering the growth of students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
• Assist parents in accessing appropriate community agency services.
• Participate in departmental planning and program development activities.
• Participate in ongoing professional development activities under the direction of the District Coordinators, Psychological Services.
• Provide support and assistance to school psychologist practicum students, school psychologist interns, and other school psychologists.
• Abide by the "Code of Ethics of the Education Profession in Florida," the National Association of School Psychologists' "Principles for Professional Ethics" and the Florida Association of School Psychologists' "Ethical Principles for Professional Practice."
• Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
• Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
• Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
• Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
• Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, or designee in times of emergency or extenuating circumstances.
