Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: 3x12s – Days or Nights (start at 7:00)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday & Sunday)
Holiday Requirement: Rotates with core staff
Local Candidates Accepted: Yes 
Floating: To like units only (no patient load if floated to higher acuity)
Call Requirement: None
Scrub Color: Black

 

🏥 Unit Overview:

• Unit Type: Med Surg/Telemetry – Inpatient Surgical Unit (3rd Floor)
• Total Beds: 48 (across two buildings)
• Patient Ratio:
  • Days: 1:4–6
  • Nights: 1:5–6
• Support Staff: LPNs, CNAs, virtual admit/discharge nurses
• Primary Nursing Model: Frequently used – candidate must be comfortable with it
• Charting System: Allscripts – Sunrise
• Tele Monitors: Draeger – Tech monitors, RNs interpret

📋 Common Patient Types:

• Neuro: Laminectomy, cervical fusion, LESI
• General: Ostomies, hernia repairs, belly surgeries
• Ortho: Total hip/knee replacements
• Vascular: Fem-pop bypass, BKA, AKA, dialysis catheter insertions
• Others: TPN, Lipids, PICC lines, DM, IV antibiotics, PCA, epidurals, chronic pain, sepsis, urgent OR cases

✅ Required Experience & Skills:

• Minimum Experience: 2 years total RN experience (at least 1 year surgical experience)
• Specialty Skills:
  • Total joint replacement experience
  • PCA pump use & reversal meds (e.g., Narcan)
  • TPN/Lipids administration
  • Sepsis protocols and management
  • Heparin drip titration per protocol
• Certifications:
  • BLS – AHA (Required)
  • NIHSS (Required)

• Strong clinical decision-making
• Adaptability in fast-paced environments
• Team player who can work under pressure and manage high patient turnover (8–12 surgery admits/day)
