Job Details Job Location Methodist University Location - Fayetteville, NC Position Type Full Time Staff Description The Professional Academic and Career Advisor supports the mission, goals and objectives of Methodist University. The Academic and Career Advisor reports to the Director of Academic Career and Advising and is a member of the One Stop team. Core Duties and Responsibilities: Serve a caseload of up to 300 students, offering holistic assessment, individualized planning support, and proactive academic and career advising. Work with each new student in their first year at MU to develop an Individual Academic Plan, which includes a clear Degree Pathway, an Individual Career Development plan, and a faculty mentor assignment. Support and guide students, with sound equity and inclusion practices, as they explore their personal, academic, and professional interests, acquire career readiness competencies, and achieve their academic goals. Collaborate closely with faculty in academic programs to stay up to date on curricular changes and to provide insight into potential barriers to student success. Assist students with finding work-based professional learning experiences and career exploration opportunities. Evaluate student needs and provide appropriate resource referral to career, academic, counseling, and student life resources and opportunities. Collaborate with faculty, coaches, staff, and other One Stop staff for student intervention and advocacy. Recommend actions related to academic alert, probation, suspension, and dismissal of students. Utilize advising and student success technologies for outreach to students. Engage ongoing professional development and training to maintain knowledge about advising concepts. Perform other duties related to student success as assigned. Qualifications Education, Experience, and Essential Skills Master's degree required in advising or higher education related discipline Experience in advising/career coaching for students in university settings. Strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and to working with diverse student populations. Strong understanding of student development theory and high-impact practices in retentionand graduation initiatives. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to adapt advising/coaching style to meet the needs of each student Proficiency with online tools, resources, and advising methods and a commitment to continuously improving services to students Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work independently Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the institution Well-developed sense of professional ethics.
