General Summary

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for executing semiconductor packaging projects on future and existing product formats in support of the manufacturing operations to ensure customer service, profitability, and continuous improvement. The role is very focused on successfully delivering against key development projects, and supporting key system needs at our production facility while maintaining high quality standards for our materials.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, engineer, and trouble-shoot methods, materials, and systems in the area of semiconductor packaging categories and materials.
• Specify package design rules and ensure process equipment capabilities are in sync with package requirements.
• Evaluate packaging materials, designs, processes, and equipment to improve cost, quality properties, manufacturability, and meet customer requirements.
• Select materials to meet optimal performance and cost.
• Conduct and/or oversee supplier experiments, trials, and analyses, to validate and advance technical packaging opportunities
• Work with packaging suppliers, raw material suppliers, and production line/automation engineers to evaluate current materials/processes and explore areas for improvement.
• Qualify and recommend new suppliers in support of cost savings and technology capability efforts.
• Organize production trials with the plants to qualify packaging within the manufacturing facilities for new product launches, startups as well as to develop best performance line setups and practices.
• Provide informational reports and proposals for production optimization, standardized specifications and best practice guidelines to management for decision making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required; no previous experience needed; or other related degree without experience; or other equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Technical packaging material knowledge and/or strong desire to expand materials knowledge necessary.
• Ability to apply engineering principles and statistics to solve problems and make data-based decisions.
• Ability to lead multiple projects in a cross-functional environment while delivering significant results.
• Solid verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate and influence with technical as well as non-technical counterparts is a key requirement.
