*Department Position Summary:*
The Director of Surgical Services has 24-hour responsibility for the Departments within Surgical Services, which includes accountability for the quality of patient care, the performance of the nursing staff, the development and management of the budget, and the orientation, education, and development of the staff, as well as implementation and evaluation of process improvement. Further, contributes to nursing and EHS support of philosophy and objectives and education efforts. This individual serves as a member of the Patient Care Services team by administering the operations of the surgical division as assigned by Senior Management. Further serves as a conduit for the implementation and maintenance of guidelines and visions of Executive Management to ensure quality and customer satisfaction within the surgical service areas of EHS. Assumes administrative duties as directed. Directs and coordinates the functions of the surgical division, to include the departments of:
Surgery
Day Surgery
PACU
Pre-Admission Testing
Scheduling
Central Sterile
Outpatient Infusion
Radiology Nursing
Endoscopy
Anesthesia
The Surgical Services Director must possess the ability to problem solve and make decisions using critical thinking, as well as be able to effectively interact with multiple team members and medical staff.
The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures. Responsible for bi-weekly payroll, impute of daily surgical and Endoscopy charges. This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self-assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.
Responsible for a continuously improving quality level of patient care service within the Erlanger Health System and to customers within the community.
Additionally, this team member will ensure that all multi-disciplinary planning activities impacting patient care are coordinated and linked to Erlanger's mission and vision. The Director must possess a vision for quality service, operational efficiency, and the ability to engage others in that vision, as well as data-driven, strong financial and analytical abilities.
Education:
Required: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. BS degree required.
Preferred: MS degree
Experience:
Required: Previous leadership position within a Surgery Department
5 years of Surgery or related experience
Preferred: Previous management experience in a University Affiliated Healthcare facility.
Previous surgery director experience
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required: Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee.
BLS completed prior to going to the unit/department and maintained going forward.
Completion of 4 Hours of Erlanger Online Education specific to Total Ankle, Hip, and Knee Replacement upon hire (will be assigned by Department Leadership and/or Educator).
Preferred: CNOR & ACLS

Pay: $40.00 - $70.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 – 45 per week
